And that was a long time ago, so there may be newer books out there. Walter Piston's book on orchestration was considered the bible when I was at university, but mostly my knowledge of/ability at orchestration comes from years of playing in orchestras and assimilating the sounds and textures I heard, so I didn't use it a great deal. ![]() ![]() Now he wants to be able to create realistic orchestral textures. He taught himself harmony and counterpoint from books by Walter Piston and Kent Kennan and composes electronic music on the computer. He is fundamentally musical, listens to lots of orchestral music and plays the piano a bit, but he has not had any formal musical training. I'm looking for a book on orchestration for my husband. ![]()
